An Awl is not a very typical tufting tool, but I do like it for some parts in the process. Even the point protector can help you at some points.

The awl and the protector also work great when cleaning up the front while carving your rug. It works perfectly as a line separator.

Prym Latch Hook – Traditional Tool for Smyrna Knotting and Tufting Fringes

The art of Smyrna rug knotting is based on an ancient Greek tradition and remains a beloved technique in textile crafts even today. The Prym latch hooks are the ideal tools for this craft, combining tradition with modern comfort.

When the tip of the latch hook is pushed through the canvas (stramin), the latch automatically opens, allowing the yarn to be easily picked up and pulled through. As the hook is drawn back, it closes automatically to prevent the yarn from slipping, making the knotting process smooth and secure.

Each latch hook—available for both Smyrna and Fine Smyrna—features a sturdy wooden handle for a comfortable grip, allowing for fatigue-free, precise work.

🧵 Also great for modern uses:
✔ Perfect for attaching fringes to tufted rugs
✔ Reliable tool for traditional Smyrna rug knotting
✔ Automatic latch mechanism for efficient and secure stitching
✔ Wooden handle for comfortable handling over long sessions

Whether you're working with classic rug-making techniques or adding stylish fringes to your tufted creations, the Prym latch hook is a trusted and versatile tool in your crafting kit.
